Um... I Could Get Used to This

You’ve heard me kvetching about many Bangkok things.

Then there’s this…

This was my third trip this month to an onsen, which literally means “hot spring” in Japanese. It also refers to a Japanese public bath house or a spa with onsen characteristics, including water brought in from an actual Japanese hot spring.

And “to onsen” is to do a circuit of baths of different temperatures, including a dip in a cold bath — 55 F, I think — VERY cold after a few triple-digit hot ones.

There are separate baths for women and men; you have to be just shy of nekkid in those at Yunomiro onsen, where I am in these photos.

(Depending on the onsen, nudity may be required; same as with the Korean spas I’ve visited in New York.)

In the public areas at Yunomori, you wear a Japanese-style robe and belt, issued when you check in. You can select your choice of pattern and color, which is like pure awesomeness, imo. (You get a two-piece pajama set at the other onsen I visited Bangkok.)

Oh, then you can grab some grub, get a massage — Thai style or aromatherapy oil — or relax in the nap room.

Really, this is one of the absolute best things I’ve found in Bangkok.

Color scheme my first time at Yunomori.
